Air Ink by Pangaia - Made from pollution

 “Don’t breathe pollution. Wear it.” This may seem like an abstract concept to most of us, but streetwear label Pangaia has managed to bring life to this notion with its latest capsule wardrobe in collaboration with AIR-INK.

Pangaia has stolen the spotlight when it comes to creating clothing that hits the sweet spot between fashion and sustainability; not to mention their utilisation of materials science to create unique, innovative designs. This particular collection boasts their signature recycled cotton T-shirts, jumpers, track pants and hoodies emblazoned with an exclusive infinity logo. And the best part? This unique logo is printed using AIR-INK, a water-based ink created by extracting carbon from air pollution.

AIR-INK is the brainchild of Graviky Labs, a materials science company based in India; one of the topmost polluted countries on our planet today. According to founder Anirudh Sharma, their goal is to “mine unnatural resources'' that should not be in the environment and turn them into useful products. With this at the heart of what they do, they have successfully curated a process for filtering and purifying dangerous PM2.5 pollution particles out of the air we breathe, resulting in the formulation of different grades of inks, coatings and dispersions from the carbon capture.

PANGAIA X AIR-INK® T-shirt - This capsule by Jenke Ahmed Tailly is printed using AIR-INK®, a black ink made from air pollution. It’s water-based, safe and carbon negative. This T-shirt is made using Organic Cotton and treated with our trademark technology: PPRMINT™ oil. PPRMINT™ has natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties to keep your T-shirt fresh for longer, meaning it can be washed less often—saving water, energy and time. It features our classic text block and special infinity logo printed using AIR-INK® technology.

The launch of this cutting-edge collection took place on none other than April 20th, paying homage to Earth Day 2021 in a humble and true-to-Pangaia style. The design and editorial process was beautifully engineered by creative director Jenke Ahmed Tailly, starring model and philanthropist Naomi Campbell & Nigerian musician Keziah Jones. The campaign was primarily focused on celebrating African culture and youth, set against the backdrop of stunning Lagos, Nigeria; a city teeming with talent and authenticity.

PANGAIA X AIR-INK® Shorts - This capsule by Jenke Ahmed Tailly is printed using AIR-INK®, a black ink made from air pollution. It’s water-based, safe and carbon negative. These Shorts are made with a responsibly sourced recycled and organic cotton mix. The fabric is a recycled cotton that’s perfect for days you want a cozier feel. The material is brushed on the inside with a soft, fuzzy, plush handfeel. It features our classic text block and special infinity logo printed using AIR-INK® technology.
